According to a report by the Guatemalan Chamber of Food and Beverages (CGAB), member states of the Central American Integration (SICA) have become the main export markets for Guatemalan dietary products in 2021 .

Bloomberg reported on April 24 that SICA is an intergovernmental organization of Central American countries with a permanent mission to the United Nations
    .
Including Guatemala, SICA has 8 member countries: Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Belize
    .

According to CGAB President Gregorio Osuna, 49% of Guatemala's food and beverage industry exports go to the SICA region, which is much higher than Mexico (11%) and the United States (8%)
    .
Compared with the previous year, the export value of Guatemala to SICA increased by 21% year-on-year, and the export value of the 10 products with the largest market demand increased by 25%
    .

At the same time, Osuna mentioned that in the second half of last year, products from the catering industry were sold to 70 SICA destinations, with an export value of US$1.
13 billion, an increase of 28% compared with the export value of the first half of the year (US$904 million)
    .

In terms of countries, compared with the previous year, Guatemala's exports to Costa Rica last year increased by 9% year-on-year; while exports to countries such as El Salvador and Nicaragua have achieved double-digit growth rates, averaging 22%
    .

CGAB said that, given that SICA has become a major export destination for the food and beverage industry in Guatemala, Guatemala should “strike while the iron is hot” and promote trade with SICA member countries
    .

CGAB Executive Director Enrique Lacs specifically mentioned Belize's market potential
    .
He noted that only 7 percent of Guatemala's exports to Belize come from the catering industry
    .
Facilitation of exports through trade agreements is the key to the development of trade between Guatemala and Belize, and it is also an important opportunity for SICA member countries to further realize trade integration
    .

Belize's ambassador to Guatemala, José Eduardo Alpuche, said that the economic ministries of the two countries have held many discussions and are communicating on expanding the trade agreement
    .

In addition, Lax also said that due to the hacking of government systems, Costa Rica's land customs had problems with goods being held up
    .
As a contingency measure, the Costa Rican government handles the formalities for goods imported from Guatemala through the SICA platform
    .
