Original title: Chewing sugar-free gum can help prevent tooth decay
A new British study suggests that chewing sugar-free gum is a proven way to prevent tooth decay.
a summary analysis of several studies over the past 50 years by Barnagie Systems, a professor of dentistry at King's College London, identified 12 positive effects of sugar-free gum on oral health, with a 28 per cent effectiveness in preventing caries.
Banerjee says the saliva secreted by the mouth when chewing sugar-free gum is a natural barrier to teeth, and that the mechanical action of chewing for long periods of time also plays a positive role in preventing tooth decay. The findings were published in the journal Clinical and Translational Research.
