Julio César Zanardi, founder of Garden Fruit, expects Chile to export about 700,000 cartons (5kg/box) of cherries to Brazil in the 2022/23 season, up nearly 35%
from 520,000 in the previous season.
    As of Jan.

in the same period last quarter.

Chile's Agricultural Network reported that the logistics crisis, combined with rising freight rates and costs, has led to more cherries being trucked to closer destinations, such as Brazil
    .
At this stage, Brazilian importers are working to expand the cherry market
    .

Chile has been exporting cherries to Brazil for years, but this season, he has seen Chilean cherries increase as production increases
    , Zanardi said.
"To date, our company has received 190,000 cases of cherries, up from 105,000 cases
in the same period last quarter.
As a result, a total of 220,000 cartons of cherries will be received this quarter, up from 110,000 in
    the previous quarter.
Overall, Chile will export about 700,000 boxes of cherries to Brazil this season, which is still small but is expected to be as popular as
    apples in the future.

In cooperation with Chilean companies such as Verfrut, Greenex, Río Maipo, Greenvic, Entre Ríos, Rucaray and Prize, Garden Fruit imports cherry varieties including Santina, Regina and Lappins, mainly to São Paulo, Río de Janeiro, Markets
in Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina.

In Brazil, cherry imports run from December to January, at the beginning of summer
    .
During these months, Zanadi focused on increasing cherry consumption
    in the Brazilian market.
"We want to promote cherries and make them a daily consumption like apples
    .
    "

Iván Marambio, president of the Association of Chilean Fruit Exporters (ASOEX), said: "Globally, Chilean cherries have multiple export destinations, such as Brazil and the United States
    .
These are the export destinations we are interested in, and our cherry exports to these markets are still growing, but they are small and temporarily do not have the capacity to compete with
    mature markets like China.

Chile's cherry plantations cover 56,000 hectares, ranging from Ovalle in the north to the southern town of Chile Chico, mainly in R.
    de Maule and R.
    de O'Higgins
, according to the latest data from Chile's Office of Agricultural Research and Policy (Odepa).

The ASOEX Cherry Committee forecasts that Chile will export 89353878 boxes of cherries, or 446769 tonnes, in 2022/23, up 25%
    from 2021/22.
