China CDC announces the overview of the adverse reaction monitoring of the new crown vaccination, the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks

On May 28, the official website of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (hereinafter referred to as "CDC") announced the national information overview and information interpretation of the adverse reaction monitoring of new coronavirus vaccination as of April 30, 2021
.

Data show that as of April 30, 2021, China has reported 265 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine
.

Among them, the reported incidence rate of adverse reactions was 11.

In its interpretation, China Disease Control stated that the general response and abnormal response rates of China's new coronavirus vaccine are lower than the average reported levels of other types of vaccines in China in 2019
.

And the occurrence probability of serious abnormal reactions in the report is extremely rare (less than one in ten thousand)

In terms of specific adverse reactions, the main adverse reaction characteristics of the new coronavirus vaccine are basically similar to those reported by other vaccines

In general reactions, about 40% of subjective symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, or nausea are reported, and moderate to severe symptoms with objective measurement indicators such as fever, local redness, and induration are relatively rare.

Vaccine adverse reactions mainly include general reactions and abnormal reactions after vaccination caused by the characteristics of the vaccine itself

Among them, the general reaction mainly refers to a transient, mild body reaction caused by the inherent characteristics of the vaccine itself (such as immunogenicity, etc.

Specific manifestations of fever, local redness, swelling, and induration have relatively few moderate to severe symptoms with objective measurement indicators.

       Abnormal reactions mainly refer to adverse drug reactions, such as severe allergic reactions, in which qualified vaccines cause damage to the tissues, organs, and functions of the recipient during or after the implementation of standardized vaccination, and the related parties are not at fault

       Among the abnormal reactions, allergic rash and angioedema have been reported in relatively large numbers, but they usually do not cause serious consequences; acute severe allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock and laryngeal edema are extremely rare and usually have no serious consequences after timely treatment

       In addition, some adverse events such as severe allergic reactions have also been reported individually.
After evaluation, some severe allergic reactions may be related to the vaccine.
Other events are still under continuous monitoring and research.
The current evaluation believes that the incidence of severe abnormal reactions is extremely low.
The benefits far outweigh the risks

       The interpretation also stated that some countries have also reported the monitoring of adverse reactions after vaccination with the new coronavirus, most of which are mainly caused by systemic symptoms such as pain, redness, fever, headache, nausea, diarrhea, tiredness, and limb pain at the vaccination site

       However, CDC also pointed out that some situations are not within the scope of general reactions and abnormal reactions
