China's longan exports to Thailand give the green light

Food Partner Network Newsfrom the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand on August 17: The Deputy Minister of the Ministry, Mananya, expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for allowing Thailand ’s longan packaging plant with relatively low pest detection frequency to export longan to China .
Currently, there are 56 packaging plants in Thailand that can export longan to China .
Therefore, the Thai Ministry of Agriculture submitted an improvement report on the longan packaging plant for exporting longan to China: (1) Strengthen the management of orchards and longan picking .
Prevent, eliminate, and separate longan that breeds mealybugs .
(2) Strengthen the management of packaging plants .
More pest inspection stations have been set up to manage infrastructure such as lights and pest monitoring equipment .
(3) Improve inspection and issue Phytosanitary certificate (PC) .
Increase the sampling rate of 66 packaging plants from 3% to 10% .
If it is the first detection of a quarantine pest, the issuance of the phytosanitary certificate will be suspended for 7 days; if it is the second detection of a quarantine pest, the issuance of the phytosanitary certificate will be suspended for 3 months .
For other packaging factories that are not included in the list of 66 packaging factories, the Thai Ministry of Agriculture will increase the intensity of random product inspections, and the sampling rate will continue to increase from 3.
5% to 7% .
