The transport phenomenon of hydrated ions in nanochannels is common in biological systems and membrane separation applications

The research team coupled Time-of-Flight-Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) with a microfluidic filter device to realize for the first time in-situ observation of the dehydration phenomenon during the transport of hydrated ions across the membrane

The research team also selected polyamide membranes with different pore sizes to trap hydrated sodium ions, further verifying the matching relationship between pore size and ion hydration number distribution

This method and discovery is a major breakthrough in the field of ion transmembrane transport research, and has important application value and guiding significance in ion separation, biosensing and battery applications
