With funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (approval numbers: 81730010, 81921001, 31930056, and 91539203), Professor Kong Wei's research team from Peking University Health Science Center has made new progress in the mechanism of extracellular matrix regulation of the phenotypic transformation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs).

The phenotypic transformation of VSMCs is a key pathological process that occurs in the early stages of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and vascular restenosis

The research team used the animal model of human carotid artery intima exfoliated tissue and guide wire strain to induce intimal neoplasia and confirmed that the expression of Nidogen-2 decreased when the vascular atherosclerosis mice were restenosis after vascular injury
