    Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Project Approval Number: 21836002) and other funding, the team of Professor Lin Zhang from the School of Metallurgy and Environment of Central South University from low temperature (< 200℃) serpentinization is the key step of hydrogen production Fe(OH) 2 Starting from the oxidation, it is found that the coexisting Ni 2+ can significantly increase the hydrogen production rate of the Fe 2+ oxidation process


    Water-rock action represented by serpentinization can produce about 10 11 moles of hydrogen each year .


    This discovery provides an experimental basis for the possibility of obtaining hydrogen energy from rock and minerals, and is expected to be applied to the exploration, development and utilization of natural hydrogen energy, thereby promoting the large-scale application of hydrogen energy and helping to alleviate the global impact caused by the excessive use of fossil energy.
