Covestro said it is working with a Chinese footwear designer to use its composite solutions to further develop innovative footwear concepts, particularly high-performance basketball shoes and foot-type-based running shoes

The upper is formed from the company's Desmopan thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fibers, while the midsole is printed using thermoplastic polyurethane powder (TPU) via selective laser sintering (SLS)

The shoes also feature Maezio Carbon Fiber Reinforced TPU (CFRTP) developed by the company for the handle, which is said to be light but also very stiff and torsion-resistant, offering a high degree of design freedom and a strong aesthetic appeal, with Striking unidirectional (UD) carbon fiber exterior

According to Covestro, viscoelastic polyurethane foam placed on the inner lining of the sock is an option to optimize energy absorption and shock resistance for manufacturers of basketball shoes looking to help relieve foot fatigue and provide athletic comfort.
