-ring dedexion polymer can quickly remove BPA (BPA). Recently, researchers at Cornell University developed a new filtration material that helps remove small organic molecules such as biphenol A from water sources and is cheaper, more efficient to filter and easier to clean than activated carbon. This material is a β-cyclodextrin polymer whose basic molecular units contain cyclodextrin and tetafluorobenzene.
researchers heated the two ingredients in a solution of potassium carbonate and tethydrofuran, connected them together in hard chains, and created porous 3D lattices. The researchers tested a new material that allowed water samples contaminated with BPA to flow through the porous cyclodextrin filter material, activated carbon and non-porous cyclodextrin polymers.
found that the new filter material reached 95% of its adsorption capacity in 10 seconds, while other materials took at least 30 minutes to achieve maximum adsorption capacity. The study makes β-cyclodextes the fastest remover of BPA found so far. At the same time, the polymer can absorb a variety of other small organic molecules compared to existing materials.
