    This study comes from a team from Duke University in the United States.
    They re-examined samples of 301 hospitalized pneumonia patients in Malaysia from 2017 to 2018 and detected one patient.
    The canine-feline recombinant α-coronavirus, tentatively named CCoV-HuPn-2018, can exhibit cytopathic effects (CPE) in cell experiments.

    Although this is a study on old samples, it is not yet possible to prove how dangerous this virus is, but if CCoV-HuPn-2018 can indeed cause disease in humans, then it is the eighth coronavirus with this ability.

    Two of the eight samples had a high CCoV content, which was sufficient for further experiments.
    One of the samples showed obvious cytopathic effects when infected with dog tumor cells (A72).

    But if you want to prove that it can cause disease in humans, you have to inject the virus directly into people.
    This obviously cannot pass the ethical barrier.

    The research team performed a complete genome sequencing of the CCoV-HuPn-2018 virus and found that it has the highest homology with another known CCoV, namely CCoV TN-449, but the S protein S2 subunit is similar to the cat coronavirus (FCoV).
    ) The homology of WSU 79-1683 is as high as 97%, which proves that this is a canine-feline recombinant coronavirus. In fact, CCoV-HuPn-2018 has a high degree of homology, and there are other viruses.
    Further analysis also shows that CCoV-HuPn-2018 has a specific deletion in the middle part of the N protein (aa-12), which can infect humans, The more dangerous SARS virus (SARS-CoV) and the new coronavirus also have such N protein changes, indicating that CCoV-HuPn-2018 may really be able to be transmitted directly from animals to humans.

    Among the seven human-causing coronaviruses previously discovered by humans, four of them only cause general cold symptoms, and then SARS, new coronaviruses and Middle East respiratory syndrome virus (MERS-CoV).

    The research team will continue to expand the scope of sample testing in the future to see if there is more evidence that CCoV-HuPn-2018 causes human illness.
