Chemists report a simple and flexible approach to the production of multi-functional ultra-hydrophobic PET textiles.
ultra-hydrophobic coatings/materials are important for a wide range of applications, but most of these coatings/materials still have poor durability. Therefore, there is a strong need for multi-functional ultra-two-sex coatings/materials with strong mechanical and chemical
.
a new study, we have reported a simple and flexible way to produce multi-functional ultra-hydrophobic polyethylene benzoate (PET) textiles. First, the double micro/nanostructure of pet fabric surfaces is constructed by hydrolysing trinoxymethylsilane, N-octyl triethyl chlorosilane, and further modified with 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluoroethylene triethyloxylsilane and polymethyl difluoroethylene.
High Rejection
The ultra-hydrophobic PET fabrics obtained thus exhibit high rejection to water, oil, organic liquids and strong acid or strong alkali solutions, with a water contact angle (WCA) of 161 degrees and an oil contact angle (OCA) of 156 degrees. At the same time, ultra-hydrophobic polyester fabrics have a strong wear resistance. Even after 180 cm of continuous wear, the WCA remains at 148 degrees and the OCA remains at 140 degrees. Importantly, the fabric maintains excellent ultra-hydrophobicity after long periods of ultraviolet exposure or ultrasound treatment.
the study has been published in the Journal of Coating Technology and Research, Volume 17 (2020).
