Original title: Eating too greasy, elderly people suffering from eye diseases
A new study by the State University of New York found that eating too greasy diet may be the main cause of vision loss in older people.
the Epidemiological and Environmental Health Research Group at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Public Health selected nearly 1,300 middle-aged and elderly participants, 117 of whom had early macular degeneration and 27 had advanced macular degeneration. Participants completed several dietary surveys during the 18-year follow-up period. The researchers divided the foods they ate into 29 categories to assess the quality of their diet. The analysis showed that people with typical Western eating habits were three times more likely to develop macular degeneration in old age, and that foods at higher risk included red and processed meats, fats such as margarine and butter, high-fat dairy products and fried foods. The findings are published in the British Journal of Ophthal mycology.
researchers point out that macular degeneration deprives patients of central vision (the ability to distinguish between the two-dimensional shape, size, contour and detail of external objects). While this observational study does not prove that coarse tea light rice reduces the risk of macular degeneration, it does show a correlation between unhealthy diet and blinding eye disease. Researchers believe that oily foods and inflammation caused by pressure on eye cells (oxidative stress) are the reasons for the increased risk. A healthy diet, such as dark leafy vegetables, fruits and fish, contains nutrients such as serotonin and zeurnishment to promote eye health.
