The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations ’ Mediterranean Fisheries Committee (GFCM) has launched a new long-term plan to provide a blueprint for improving the sustainability of Mediterranean fisheri.

The new initiative, "MedSea4Fish", aims to provide equipment and skills to more than 20 GFCM countries, enabling GFCM and its partners to continue to reverse overfishing in the Mediterranean, driving immediate action at the national, subregional and regional levels , specifically, "MedSea4Fish" will focus on improving fisheries and ecosystem monitoring, training and strengthening infrastructu.

Miguel Bernal, senior director of fisheries at GFCM, said that "MedSea4Fish" will take these efforts to the next level, improving infrastructure from providing standard fishing nets for scientific surveys, upgrading port facilities, testing or using more selective fishing gear, or expanding With the use of new technologies, infrastructure will focus more on long-term and sustainable u.

The committee said the main groups benefiting from "MedSea4Fish" included fishermen and industry workers, scientists and experts, and representatives of government and national fisheries research institutio.
