Fine Chronology Study of Yixian Formation and "Dinosaur Pompeii" in Western Liaoning |
In the Lujiatun layer at the bottom of the Yixian Formation in western Liaoning, a large number of "three-dimensional three-dimensional dinosaur fossils" caused by the rapid deposition of pyroclastic materials are preserved.
They are called "Mesozoic Dinosaur Pompeii" and are a hot spot in the study of the Jehol biota.
The early Cretaceous terrestrial Jehol biota was mainly distributed in western Liaoning, northern Hebei and southeastern Inner Mongolia, producing a large number of exquisitely preserved rare fossils, such as feathered dinosaurs, primitive birds, early real mammals, etc.
The evolution of the Jehol biota has experienced three stages: early, middle and late, corresponding to the Huajiying Formation in Northern Hebei, Yixian Formation in West Liaoning and Jiufotang Formation respectively.
National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Basic Sciences Center project Ke Xueyuan , funding pilot projects of class B Zhong Keyuan Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry Xuyi Gang academician team, in collaboration with the University of California, Davis Professor Qing-Zhu Yin team to The Yixian Formation in western Liaoning carried out the single-particle zircon high-precision CA-ID-IRMS U-Pb dating.

These new data have produced many new enlightenments:
(1) The duration of the Yixian Formation in western Liaoning is 1.
(2) The Lujiatun layer was deposited earlier than the Jianshangou layer, rather than the two previous scholars believed that the two were deposited at the same time.
(3) The new chronological framework of the Yixian Formation effectively restricted the duration of lacustrine deposition in the Jianshangou layer.
