    BEIJING, China
    : Ford Motor Co. announced Thursday that it will open a new plant in western India, according to Indian media reports. In the future, Ford's Indian production capacity will double and its car exports will triple.
    , president of Ford Motor Co., said Thursday that the new plant, which has advanced automotive manufacturing and world-class engine technology, "will take Ford's production in India to a new level." He predicts that the new plant will nearly double Ford's production capacity in India and increase local employment to deliver better products to consumers around the world. Ford
    has invested more than $1bn in its plant in Sanand, Gujarat, since breaking ground in September 2011, according to the company. The initial annual production capacity of the new assembly plant and the engine plant is 240,000 units and 270,000 units, respectively. At the beginning of production, the new plant will employ 2,500 workers and operate on a one-shift schedule. The plant will also create more than 7,500 jobs for Tier 1 suppliers and other parts of the industry chain.
