    The research team used a 10-mer and a 90-mer (representing the number of nucleotides that make up the length of the molecule) of DNA to form a zipper-like structure and attach it to the gold surface or the metal of a scanning tunneling microscope.


    By measuring an amount called "tunneling current" that passes through the nanogap, the team estimated the conductivity of the DNA connection relative to a bare nanogap without DNA


    To their delight, they found that single-molecule knots of 90-mer DNA exhibited unprecedented high conductivity
