The second phase of the fast Trak expansion of General Electric's China Life Sciences Research and Development Training Center has been completed. Li Qing, general manager of GE Medical's Life Sciences Division in Greater China, said precision medicine has great potential in China and GE will work with upstream and downstream enterprises to actively promote the development of precision medicine in China.
The so-called Precision Medicine" refers to the application of modern genetic technology, molecular imaging technology, bio-information technology, combined with the patient's living environment and clinical data, to achieve accurate disease classification and diagnosis, the development of personalized disease prevention and treatment programs.
reporter learned that in March 2012, GE Medical completed the first phase of the expansion project of Fast Trak, China Life Sciences Research and Development Training Center, and established a number of technical platforms, including the new pharmaceutical laboratory process development platform, cell culture and protein purification process pilot amplification platform, quality testing and analysis platform. The just-completed Fast Trak II expansion has built an international first-class pilot platform with a built-in all-disposable production line, the Flexible Factory (FlexFactory TM), which allows biopharmaceutical companies to reduce development risks, accelerate product launches, and develop local talent and reserve forces without having to invest heavily in fixed plants and equipment.
Zhan Qimin, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and vice president of the Chinese Concord Medical University, delivered a keynote speech at the Forum on the New Drug Creation towards the Summit on Precision Medicine. In an interview with the Economic Reference Daily, he pointed out that one of the strategic significances of promoting precision medicine is to form a new economic growth point and promote the development of large health industries. Mr Zhan said the health industry, which covers precision medicine, had been included in the country's pillar industry this year and its contribution to gross domestic product would be more than 8 per cent of international practice. As far as precision medicine is all about, there is a huge demand from Chinese residents, and there is an inevitable trend in medical development, so it brings economic value in terms of drugs, equipment, technology development and medical services.
