    Guatemalan blueberries get Canadian market access

    The Guatemalan Ministry of Agriculture (MAGA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex) recently announced that after a long wait, Guatemala has finally received authorization to export blueberries to Canad.
     
    Guatemala's "Free Press" reported on July 17 that according to MAGA and Minex, Guatemalan blueberries have passed the phytosanitary procedures of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and obtained access to the Canadian mark.
     
    According to Roberto Castañeda, president of Guatemalan agricultural export company Planesa, Guatemala has applied to Canada for blueberries several years ago, and it has finally been approv.
    Since then, Guatemalan blueberries will have the opportunity to appear in Canadian supermarkets, restaurants and hote.
     
    According to Casteneda, the blueberries currently produced by Planesa are mainly aimed at the domestic market of Guatemala and the Central American mark.
    In order to meet the needs of the Canadian market, Planesa will expand the blueberry production ar.
