On October 8, the research group of Heping Xu and Danyang He of the School of Life Sciences of West Lake University published an online publication titled “Early developing B cells undergoing central nervous system specific antigen-mediated tolerance screening in the meninges” in the journal “Immunology”.

B cells are a group of cells that can produce antibodies in humans or animals

Traditionally, the central nervous system is considered to be an immune exempt area, that is to say, the entry and exit of immune cells in the immune system into and out of the central nervous system will be strictly controlled and cannot easily enter the central nervous system

How do autoreactive B cells targeting proteins specifically expressed in the central nervous system but not expressed in the bone marrow maintain immune tolerance in the central nervous system, so as to avoid the occurrence of autoimmune diseases? This question aroused the interest of Xu Heping's research team and He Danyang's research team

The research team first used a mouse model to analyze the molecular characteristics of B cells in the meninges.

In order to clarify that meningeal B cells are not unique to the mouse model, the research team further analyzed the meningeal B cells of Chinese macaques

The work of Xu Heping's research group and He Danyang's research group has revised the theoretical knowledge of B lymphocyte development and screening in current textbooks, which is of great significance to the establishment and improvement of the basic theories related to B lymphocyte development and screening, and clarifies the development of meningeal B cells.
