Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have discovered thousands of genetic variants associated with many traits and diseases

Epidemiological studies have shown that there is a positive correlation between chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC)

In this meta-analysis of 3100 CLL cases and 7667 controls, the researchers studied (i) the relationship between the identified NMSC susceptibility sites and the risk of CLL; (ii) one included 4242 cases of basal cells.

The results show that higher CLL-PRS is associated with an increased risk of BCC (OR4-quartile-vs-1st-quartile=1.

Taken together, these findings emphasize the role of polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of CLL and NMSC, and show that a single polymorphic locus 6p25.
