Carotid intima-media thickness increases, the diameter of the membrane between the carotid plaque presence and expansion is reduced medsci.
medsci.
Recently, a research article was published in JAHA, an authoritative journal in the field of cardiovascular disease.
Between 1990 and 1992, researchers performed carotid ultrasound examinations on 12,459 ARIC participants and followed up for dementia until 2017.
The age of the participants at baseline was 57 ± 6 years, 57% for women, and 23% for blacks.
It can be seen that larger carotid artery intima-media thickness, intermedial diameter and lower carotid artery dilatation are associated with an increased risk of dementia.
