    Introduction: the occurrence of gastric cancer (GC) is related to our daily eating habits, so if we want to prevent gastric cancer well, we should pay attention to diet and eat more food to prevent disease.there is a good saying that "garlic is a treasure, it is good to eat often", and it is also said that garlic can prevent the occurrence of gastric cancer, is this true? Chinese researchers have carried out a prospective study and analysis to provide evidence support for this statement.there is a place in Shandong called Linqu County.this place is very small, only 1833 square kilometers, about one tenth of Beijing's., however, Linqu has a very high reputation in the research of cancer in China, because Linqu county is the most common incidence rate of gastric cancer in China.(Linqu County, photo source: ditu.amap.com In contrast, it is in Cangshan County of Shandong province where the incidence rate of gastric cancer is extremely low.why is there such a big difference in the same province and the same disease? Cangshan County is a big garlic County, but Linqu County people are not very enthusiastic about garlic.it can be inferred that garlic may be related to gastric cancer.previously, a large-scale prospective study in a Western population identified smoking as a risk factor for gastric cancer, while drinking alcohol was associated with gastric cancer risk.however, this association was not reported in another meta-analysis and large prospective cohort studies.two studies on high-risk population in China did not report that smoking and drinking were the main factors leading to gastric cancer, including a prospective study and a case-control study.previous case-control studies based on Linqu population support that smoking rather than alcohol consumption is a risk factor for gastric cancer.in a case cohort study in South Korea, heavy alcohol consumption (≥ 7 times a week) was associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer in people not infected with H. pylori.however, no association was found between alcohol intake and alcohol intake.in 1995, researchers launched the Shandong intervention experiment (SIT) in Linqu County to evaluate the progress of gastric cancer after 2 weeks of Helicobacter pylori treatment and 7.3 years of vitamin and garlic supplements.during a total of 22.3 years of follow-up, the researchers found that a significant reduction in the risk of gastric cancer was associated with vitamin and garlic supplements.research flow chart in case-control study of Linqu population, many people's risk of gastric cancer is related to lifestyle factors. in addition to improper eating habits, Helicobacter pylori infection is also the main pathogenic factor of chronic active gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and gastric cancer. and the prevention and treatment effect of garlic on gastric cancer is also based on its help to prevent Helicobacter pylori infection. distribution of participants and main lifestyle factors: 3365 participants were randomized into clinical trials and followed up for 20 years. this large-scale prospective study analysis once again supports smoking as a risk factor for gastric cancer incidence and mortality. but not drinking alcohol and garlic supplements have stronger beneficial effects on the prevention of gastric cancer. in this prospective analysis, no significant association was found between dietary factors such as total intake of fruits and vegetables and the risk of gastric cancer. the conclusion is that garlic can reduce the incidence and mortality of gastric cancer in non-smokers and non drinkers. the study was published in JAMA. but this study has some limitations. first of all, the sample size is moderate, and the statistical ability of some analysis may be limited. Second, there is no detailed information on lifestyle factors, such as the frequency and amount of alcohol consumed, the duration and number of years of smoking per pack, and the specific diet, which makes it impossible for them to study lifestyle factors in more detail. Third, they did not have data on lifestyle changes during the follow-up period, nor could they check for updated lifestyle factors. however, this change is unlikely to occur in the intervention and control groups. in addition, the study is based on the high-risk rural population of nutritional deficiency, so the inference of the general population needs to be interpreted carefully. in a word, no smoking, no drinking, more garlic, good health!
