Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease, with an incidence of 1% in people over the age of 60

Although the underlying pathophysiology of this disease has not been fully established, some histopathological features have been well described, most notably the degeneration of dopamine-producing neurons in the parasubstantia nigra

The endocrine system has been shown to have neuroprotective functions, especially antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects

THC has desirable analgesic, muscle relaxant and antiemetic properties, but also has tricky psychoactive effects

Additionally, it has been speculated that the antioxidant properties of cannabis may slow PD progression and improve PD symptoms

Preclinical studies have shown that activation of CB1 receptors can reduce dyskinesia in animal models of PD

    Berzenn Urbia et al.

Compelling evidence was found to recommend the use of cannabis in PD patients

Potential benefits found in relieving PD-related tremor, anxiety, pain, improving sleep quality, and quality of life
