Preventing community transmission of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is an effective way to contain the outbreak, and researchers recently looked at the effects of maintaining social distance, masks and goggles on the spread of the virus in medical and non-medical (community) environmentsthis study is a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the optimal distance from human-to-human virus transmission and to assess the effectiveness of using masks and goggles to prevent the spread of the virus, until May 3, 2020A total of 172 observational studies were conducted in 16 countries and 44 related comparative studies were conducted in medical and non-medical settings (n-25,697 patients)The transmission rate of viruses with a physical distance of less than 1 m or more is lower (n,10736, combined adjustment advantage ratio of 0.18; risk difference of 10.2% rd,10.2% medium evidence), increased protection (relative risk change (RR) 2.02/m, medium evidentiary quality)The use of masks significantly reduces the risk of infection (n s 2647; aOR: 0.15, RD:14.3%, low quality of evidence)N95 or similar masks are more protective than disposable surgical masks or similar masks (e.g., reusable 12-16 layers of cotton masks)Goggles are also associated with lower infections (n s 3713; aOR: 0.22, RD: -10.6%, low evidence rating)study suggests that maintaining a social distance of more than 1 meter, wearing masks and goggles are effective ways to reduce the human-to-human spread of new coronary pneumonia
