Maldives fish exports down 24% year-on-year in Q4 2021

From SeafoodMedia on March 15, according to the Quarterly Economic Bulletin issued by the Maldives Central Bank Monetary Authority (MMA), the fish export volume in the fourth quarter of 2021 was 20,685.

Exports of fresh or chilled yellowfin tuna and canned or bagged tuna increased by 41%, respectively, but exports of frozen bonito and frozen yellowfin tuna decreased by 31% and 46%, respectively, resulting in lower overall fish export levels

In the fourth quarter of 2021, Maldives imported 23,874.

The small increase in fish purchases in the last quarter was driven by an 18 percent increase in bonito purchases, offsetting a 39 percent decline in yellowfin tuna purchases, the report said
