    BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua
) -- The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has released a report saying that more than half of Europe's endevant tree species are facing extinction risks due to invasive alien species, uncontromed logging and urbanization.
IUCN reports that 42% of Europe's 454 native tree species are likely to disappear from Europe in the future. In addition, as many as 58 per cent of Europe's endearing tree species are at risk of extinction, according to the agency's updated "Red List" of endangered species, 66 of which are "extremely endangered" and are only a short walk away from extinction, a worrying situation.
IUCN says pests, diseases and invasive alien species are accelerating the decline of europe's native tree species. The number of the most representative of these seven-leaf trees has been significantly reduced and is classified as "vulnerable", mainly due to the rapid spread of the pest "subliminal leafworm" from the Balkans, as well as the rapid development of logging, forest fires and tourism.
the agency stressed that attention should be paid to and included in the protection of some little-known species. For the first time, the Red List assessed the status of these species and found that more than half of the shrubs, as well as one fifth of tetanus species and moss plants, were on the verge of extinction.
are ecologically important, such as land-made mums, which help improve soil and are important food sources for birds, mammals and humans, the report said.
