    Pancreatic cancer is a disease in which pancreatic healthy (http:// cells stop working normally and grow out of control The five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is only 9%, because the disease is difficult to diagnose, and it is usually not detected until the cancer spreads from the pancreas to other parts of the body Recently, a study published in Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & me tabolis showed that hyperglycemia may increase the risk of pancreatic cancer The authors of the study, Cheol-Young Park, MD, Seoul, Samsung, said that when they used the national cohort database to assess the incidence rate of pancreatic cancer based on fasting blood glucose levels, they found that the number of pancreatic cancer cases was also increasing with fasting blood glucose levels This is true for both diabetics and nondiabetics In this national study, researchers used a national cohort database containing about 25000000 patients to assess the incidence rate of pancreatic cancer in South Korea based on blood glucose levels The researchers found that the incidence rate of pancreatic cancer increased significantly in the diabetic population as the blood sugar level increased, and also increased significantly in the prediabetes or normal blood glucose level
