Original title: New Study: Green Tea Combined Exercise Helps Relieve Fatty Livers
A new mouse study by U.S. researchers shows that green tea extract binding exercise can significantly reduce the severity of obesity-related fatty liver disease. The study was recently published in the American Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry.
researchers at Pennsylvania State University in the United States asked mice fed high-fat foods to eat a certain amount of caffeinate-free green tea extract for 16 weeks and run regularly on a treadmill. The results showed that their livers had only a quarter of the lipid deposits in the control group (10 without green tea extract and without regular exercise), and about half as much as 10 percent of the control mice in mice that ate only green tea extract or exercised only regularly.
In addition to looking at liver tissue in mice, the researchers analyzed protein and fat levels in mouse feces and found higher levels of lipids and protein in mice that ate green tea extract and exercised regularly.
That's because polyphenols in green tea interact with digestive enzymes secreted by the small intestine, partially inhibiting the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats and proteins in food, and some undigested fats are excreted through feces, said Joshua Lambert, an associate professor of food science at Pennsylvania State University and author of the paper.
study also found that green tea extract combined with exercise increased gene expression associated with new mitochondrial formation in mice, which helped to explore specific mechanisms for the combination of green tea extract and exercise to relieve fatty liver.
Lambert cautions that there are no clinical trials that have proven that green tea combined with exercise is good for human health, so people should be cautious when trying out health care methods. But he says he believes it's wise to exercise more and replace high-calorie drinks with decaffeinated green tea.
