New toilet coatings save at least 50% of water

a team at Pennsylvania State University has developed a new liquid coating that can save at least 50 percent of water by painting it on a regular ceramic toiletstudy in the British journal Nature Sustainable Development shows that the paint takes two steps to sprayThe first step is to spray a molecularly modified polymer on the inner wall of the toilet to "bottom", the dried polymer will grow like a hair-like molecule, but only about one millionth of the diameter of human hair;studies have shown that after two steps of spraying, the latter slips completely, without any adhesion, and enhances the toilet's antibacterial and deodorant functions when it is flushed with only a small amount of waterThe researchers say the entire spray process takes less than five minutes and requires a second coating to be sprayed 500 timesthis method saves 90 percent of water in laboratory tests and at least 50 percent when used in traditional toilets that have not been modified
