On January 12, 2021, Norway exported 83,400 tons of pickled cod, down 9% year-on-year and 4.3 billion Norwegian kroner, down 10% year-on-year.
Norwegian pickled cod was the biggest decline in cod, mainly due to a sharp drop in exports to Brazil, which was also negatively affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the catering industry.
Christmas, however, boosted sales of Norwegian pickled cod in Portugal, with more than 25 per cent of dry cod sales taking place in December, during which sales were better than in the same period in 2019 and relatively stable compared to 2019.
2020, Norwegian salt fish exports amounted to 256,000 tons, an increase of 9% YoY, while exports amounted to NOK 1.4 billion, an increase of NOK 154 million, or 12%.
salted cod exports will be lower in 2019, trading will increase in 2020 and prices will rise at the beginning of the year.
