In recent years, gastrointestinal disorders and mental health problems of long-term seafaring crews have become increasingly prominent, and it is imperative to improve the physical and mental health of seafarers by eating probiotics.82 ocean-going crew members were recruited for this study. During the 30-day sailing mission, 40 seafarers took mixed probiotic products (species include: Cheese Lactobacillus Zhang, Plant Lactobacillus P-8, Lactobacillus C. The results showed that after the voyage, 42 seafarers who took placebo had intestinal bacteri group disorders, increased levels of pathogenic bacteria (Gordon's Streptococcus and Pneumonia Kreber), and the crew's psychological stress and mental anxiety were at risk. In contrast, 40 seafarers who continued to take probiotics maintained a steady state of intestinal bacterial composition and bacterial function genes during the voyage, and their stress and mental anxiety conditions were significantly reduced. Based on the correlation analysis of crew mental state index and intestinal microbiome, it is shown that compound probiotics can effectively regulate the crew's intestinal microorganisms, and beneficial bacterial group metabolites can improve the mental anxiety of distant crew members by acting on the host nervous system through the intestinal-brain axis.
