    Supported by the National Key R&D Program, Professors Su Wenru and Zheng Yingfeng from Sun Yat-sen University's Zhongshan Ophthalmology Center collaborated on research to reveal the impact of gender and aging on peripheral blood immune cells at the single-cell level

    Researchers used single-cell RNA sequencing to perform single-cell level transcriptome analysis on peripheral blood mononuclear cells of volunteers of different ages and genders, and verified important conclusions through relevant experiments


    Studies have found that among young people, the immune differences between men and women are more concentrated in B cells and monocytes, while in the elderly people are mainly concentrated in natural killer cells (NK)


    At the same time, it was also found that T cells and B cells, which are closely related to adaptive immunity, are more "active" in women, and the related activation signal pathways are more enriched

    In addition, the researchers pointed out potential gender differences in the interaction between cell signaling pathways and immune cells through the analysis of cell-to-cell communication
