Recently, in a new study, researchers from the United States, Italy, South Korea, Ireland, Japan and the Netherlands used supervised machine learning technology to develop a comprehensive test method called compcyst to guide the management of pancreatic cyst patients This test method is based on selected clinical and imaging features, as well as genetic and biochemical markers of cyst fluid Using data from 436 patients with pancreatic cysts, the researchers trained compcyst to classify those patients into those who needed surgery, those who should receive routine monitoring, and those who did not need further monitoring The researchers then tested compcyst in a separate cohort of 426 patients, using histopathology as the gold standard They found that clinical management based on the compcyst test was more accurate than using only traditional clinical and imaging standards The compcyst test spared more than half of patients who underwent unnecessary pancreatectomy Therefore, the CompCyst test has potential to reduce the incidence rate of patients and the economic cost associated with the current practice of pancreatic cyst management In summary, the compcyst test, designed to avoid the discharge of patients with potential malignant tumors, is superior to the current standard nursing method in terms of managing all patients, which proves its potential for clinicians and patients.
