Jujube is a characteristic medicinal and edible fruit that originated in China and is deeply loved by people

Recently, Xu Haifeng, the dried fruit innovation team of the Fruit Research Institute of Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and others have identified the metabolic pathways and key genes that control the biosynthesis of lignin during the peeling process of winter jujube

The study found through paraffin wax and frozen sections that during the coloring process of the peel of Dongzao jujube, the content of lignin increased, and a large amount of pigment was deposited in the cell wall

The above candidate factors were further used for Arabidopsis heterologous expression and winter jujube peel transient injection, combined with Arabidopsis stem and winter jujube peel lignin-safranine staining, the researchers identified a MYB activator (LOC107425254) and a MYB Suppressor (LOC107415078) participates in lignin biosynthesis by regulating F5H and CCR.

This study revealed the metabolic pathways and key genes that control the biosynthesis of lignin during the peeling process of Dongzao jujube, and provided a molecular basis for further research on the regulation of lignin
