Rwanda's "New Era" reported on October 13 that Rwanda will make every effort to promote the development of hydroponic agricultural technology in Rwanda
    .
Hydroponic cultivation is one of the methods of soilless cultivation, which is characterized by the use of mineral nutrient solutions to grow crops, and no soil is required in the process of crop absorption of nutrients
    .
According to the report, compared with traditional soil culture, the advantage of hydroponic cultivation is that under the condition that water consumption and floor space are both reduced by 80%, crop yields can still be greatly increased.
In addition, hydroponic cultivation can also reduce crop exposure to soil.
    Spread the infestation of pests
    .
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture of Lu, vertical hydroponic cultivation in the greenhouse can help farmers harvest about 500 tons of crops per hectare, while traditional soil culture can only harvest about 30 tons
    .
At present, the Ministry of Agriculture of Rwanda has allocated 38.
1 hectares of land as special land for the development of hydroponic cultivation before 2024, and has set up special subsidies for private enterprises that develop this technology
    .
In addition, the Rwanda government has also promised to invest 8.
    2 billion rupee (approximately US$8.
05 million) in the field of hydroponic cultivation by 2024 by upgrading, building greenhouses, and providing hydroponic cultivation infrastructure
    .
Charles Bucagu, Deputy Director of Agricultural Research and Technology Transfer of the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Commission, said that Rwanda’s hydroponic agricultural technology is mainly used for the cultivation of high-value crops and the breeding of disease-free seeds.
Cassava and sweet potato are the priority crops of Lu's hydroponic farming
    .
He pointed out that Rwanda's hydroponic agriculture will require at least 68.
    5 billion RUR (approximately US$67.
27 million) of investment in the next two years, and the Rwanda government will cooperate with private enterprises to achieve this goal
