Silicon application reduces the host preference, SRBSDV inoculation rate and acquisition rate of the white-backed planthopper
Recently, the food crop pest monitoring and control innovation team of the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences revealed for the first time that silicon application in rice reduces the host preference of the white-backed planthopper and at the same time reduces the white-backed planthopper’s exposure to the southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus SRBSDV Rate and acquisition rate, thereby reducing the spread of white-backed planthopper to SRBSDV
.
Related research results were published in the international journal "Pest Management Science"
Most plant viruses are spread through the sucking behavior of sucking insects
.
Virus infection often leads to severe crop yield and quality loss, and there is no effective treatment technology for crop virus diseases
The study found that the preference of the white-backed planthopper on the silicon-applied rice is whether it is in the process of inoculating the poisonous white-backed planthopper to the non-venomous rice or in the process of the non-venomous white-backed planthopper obtaining the virus from the poisonous rice.
Both decreased; both the inoculation rate and the acquisition rate of white-backed planthopper on silicon-applied rice were decreased
.
The two may be related to the increase in siliconization of rice mediated by silicon application, and the latter is related to the shortening of the saliva secretion and phloem sap sucking time of the white-backed planthopper caused by silicon application in rice
This research provides new ideas for the prevention and control of southern rice black-streaked dwarf disease and other crop virus diseases
.
Rice actively absorbs and stores silicon, which can greatly improve the agronomic characteristics and stress resistance of rice
