The Convention also results in the Katahna Bios security Protocol, the Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplement on Liability and Remedies of the Katahna Biosecurity Protocol and the Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources and fair and equitable sharing of the benefits derived from their use.
Convention entered into force on 29 December 1993 and currently has 196 Parties.
My country signed the Convention on 11 June 1992 and formally ratified it on 5 January 1993, was one of the first countries to sign and ratify the Convention, and ratified the Katahna Biosecurity Protocol and the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and Fair and Equitable Sharing of the Benefits of Its Use on 8 June 2005 and 8 June 2016, respectively.
3. China's accession to the Convention and Actions In order to protect biodiversity and implement the Convention on Biological Diversity, China established the National Committee for Biodiversity Conservation of China, chaired by the Vice Premier and with the participation of 25 relevant departments, in 2011 and, under its guidance, formulated the China Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and Action Plan (2011-2030) and the China Action Programme 2011-2020 for the United Nations Decade for Biodiversity, which incorporated biodiversity conservation into the country's important policy planning.
the Chinese government attaches great importance to the work of nature reserves, and has clarified the legal status of nature reserves through the promulgation and implementation of the Environmental Protection Law, the Regulations on Nature Reserves and other laws and regulations.
the end of 2015, 2,740 nature reserves with a total area of 1.47 million square kilometers had been established throughout the country.
nature reserves account for 14.8% of the land area, higher than the world average of 12.7%.
The Chinese Government has also carried out extensive cooperation with international organizations such as the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Global Environment Fund and relevant countries to actively promote the achievement of the Aichi Goal for Global Biodiversity Conservation by 2020, and has set a good example for seriously implementing the Convention on Biological Diversity and effectively protecting responsible large countries for biodiversity.
China has also made full use of important anniversaries such as the International Day of Biodiversity and World Environment Day to conduct publicity activities to guide public participation and raise public awareness of biodiversity conservation.
