According to South Africa's business technology website on December 27, insiders said the president will soon meet with cabinet ministers to study raising the ban to level two, and plans to impose a strict sales ban on alcohol products.
, South Africa's liquor industry has taken the initiative to urge the government to make prudent decisions and not to impose a sales ban unless it is a last last act.
The South African Wine Merchants' Federation and the WineMakers' Association have both appealed to the Government, saying that the sales ban has proved to be not a sustainable and effective method and that it will have serious consequences such as unemployment, tax losses, illegal trade and looting of alcohol, and that they are more inclined to support government measures such as curfews and restrictions on mass gathering.
South African Alcohol Sales Association said it wanted to allow alcohol to be sold off-the-spot and allow people to go home to drink, warning that a total ban on alcohol sales would put 250,000 jobs at risk.
