    Recently, the research group of Yang Wulin, a researcher from the Institute of Health , Hefei Institute of Material Science , Chinese Academy of Sciences , has made new progress in the field of tumorigenesis and discovered a metabolic regulation mechanism that promotes the malignant transformation of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis

    Fatty liver is a common liver pathological change with excessive accumulation of fat in liver cells.

    Fatty liver disease is generally divided into alcoholic fatty liver and non-alcoholic fatty liver


    Starting from the STAM mouse model that mimics the evolution of human fatty liver disease, the research team analyzed the gene expression patterns and gene set variation at each stage of the disease, and found that the extensive activation of carcinogenic signals occurred at the stage of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, accompanied by regulatory fatty acids.

    The synergy of the two will facilitate the occurrence of tumor-initiating cells and promote malignant transformation


    This result suggests that the activation of the fatty acid metabolism signal axis is an important factor in the formation and maintenance of liver cancer initiating cells, and targeting this signal axis may provide a potential direction for the prevention of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis-related hepatocellular carcinoma

    This study also suggests the potential role of lipoprotein lipase LPL molecular inhibitors, such as the weight-loss drug orlistat, in cancer prevention
