Food Partners Network News Thailand Food and Drug Administration August 11 news: Today, the Bureau's Deputy Secretary-General Poonlap said that the Bureau's Consumer Foundation disclosed 13 dry samples of squid in 7 samples containing heavy metal cadmium pollution exceeded the standard, its detection and analysis data are 2.003mg/kg, 2.393mg/kg, 2.537mg/kg, 3.006mg/kg, 3.303mg/kg, 3.432mg/kg and 3.872mg/kg.

In squid, it is relatively difficult to avoid contamination of cadmium, so the Bureau issued a food standard bulletin on this issue: the maximum contamination limit of cadmium in fresh squid does not exceed 2 mg/kg (wet weight), and the maximum pollution limit of heavy metals in dried squid does not exceed 4.88 mg/kg.
The Bureau, together with the provincial public health bureaus, inspects and collects samples at the point of sale of fresh squid and dried squid, and is awaiting the results of the laboratory analysis of the Medical Bureau, which regularly tests the quality of fresh squid and dried squid.
If the content of heavy metals in food is found to be excessive, a fine of up to 50,000 baht (about 10,000 yuan) will be imposed in accordance with the law, and if heavy metals are found to be harmful to the health of consumers, they will be punished by imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of 20,000 baht (about 4,000 yuan) or both.
