    Forum on Carbohydrate and Population Health, one of the sub-forums of the 14th National Conference on Nutritional Science, was held on the morning of September 22 at the Nanjing International Expo Conference Center. Hosted by the Chinese Nutrition Society, this international forum brings together more than 300 experts and scholars from home and abroad to report on new progress in carbohydrate research, summarize the century-old history and current situation in the field of carbohydrate research, and talk about future trends.
    Yang Yuxin, President of the Chinese Nutrition Society and a researcher at the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Liu Simin, Director of the Global Center for Cardiovascular Metabolic Health from the United States and a tenured professor at Brown University, are the President of the General Assembly. Professor Liu Simin's opening report, entitled Dietary Carbohydrates and Health: Important Interactions, is based on multi-year research data that provide an in-depth look at the interactions between carbohydrates and health in the diet. Professor Liu's team first proposed the concept of dietary sugar load internationally and completed a number of nutritional and molecular epidemiological studies.
    Professor Livia Augustin of the National Cancer Institute in Pascal, Italy, pioneered the study of glycemic index in cancer risk, which led to a report entitled "The effects of a Mediterranean diet with a low glycemic index on cardiovascular metabolic factors in breast cancer survivors".
    Professor John Sievenpiper and Dr. Cyril Kendall of the School of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto focused on "Low Carbohydrate Diet and Health: Whether Carbohydrate Quality Is More Important Than Quantity" and "International Studies to Include Low GI Carbohydrates in Lifestyle Trials to Prevent Cardiovascular Disease."
    Yang Yuxin of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Institute of Nutrition and Health, entitled "Traditional Diet - Chinese GI and Carbohydrate Research". As a leader in the field of carbohydrate and health in China, Professor Yang's team has been working on glycemic index, polysacchar sugar and dietary fiber since 1999. She presented the team's research results in GI from food GI and database studies, GI influence factors and mechanisms, traditional diets, and blood sugar responses.
    Beneo Institute Professor Anke Sentko, focusing on "The role of low glycemic index and slow release of carbohydrates in a health promotion and preventive diet", described the application of low glycemic index carbohydrates in healthy populations and the preventive role in noncommunicable chronic diseases;
    During the conference, the Executive Chairman of the Global Carbohydrate Quality and Health Alliance, ICQC, introduced the purpose and scope of ICQC's work, which aims to work with nutrition scientists around the world to collaborate and innovate, strengthen international cooperation, promote the healthy development of the global carbohydrate sector, and realize the dream of "sharing the world's health". The alliance invited Professor Yang Yuxin of China to join. Professor Yang Yuexin, Professor Liu Simin, Professor Livia Augustin, Professor John Sievenpiper and Dr. Cyril Kendall, Dr. Sun Jianqin, Director of Fudan University's East China Hospital, and renowned experts and scholars in the field of carbohydrate and health, such as Cedar Associate Researcher, opened the ICQC's joining ceremony and laid the foundation for the establishment of the Asian Alliance.
