On November 1 Chinese 5, EU member states again rejected the European Commission's proposal to extend the marketing license for the herbicide glyphosate for another year, but the European Commission said it would still approve its provisional renewal by mid-December
    .

On 15 November, the Appeals Board, composed of representatives of member states, held a second vote on the renewal of glyphosate, which still did not reach the required majority
    .
As the current license for glyphosate expires in mid-December and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reassessment of the active substance will only begin in July 2023, the European Commission has decided to temporarily extend the marketing authorization for glyphosate for one year
    .

In October, EU countries rejected the proposal at the EU's Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCoPAFF), prompting the European Commission to appeal
    .
On November 15, a second attempt to pass the regulation failed again, with no majority in member states still in favor of re-ratifying glyphosate
    .
That brought the issue back to the committee, and the College of Commissioners can now approve the proposal
    on its own.

A spokesman for the European Commission said, "The European Commission now has a legal obligation to make a decision
    before the mid-December deadline.
The spokesperson confirmed that the European Commission will approve the proposal, extending the approval period for glyphosate by one year, that is, until December 15
    , 2023.
