Recently, the team of Liu Shuangjiang, a researcher at the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, constructed a gut microbial strain resource bank (hGMB) of healthy people containing 400 different species, and the relevant results were published in the journal "Microbiome"
.
More and more evidences show that gut microbes are closely related to host health, growth and development
.
At present, only less than half of the gut microbial species have been successfully cultured and named in the laboratory
The hGMB constructed by him and his team includes 400 different species, 102 of which are isolated, cultured and identified for the first time.
1170 representative strains are stored in the China Common Microbial Culture Collection, and have been reported to the scientific and industrial circles.
Provides several strain services to support the development of intestinal microbial function and the research of microbial-host interaction
.
In order to give full play to and tap the value of strain resources, the species information of this resource bank has been published on the website (hgmb.
According to reports, the construction of hGMB took two years.
The research team selected more than 20,000 single clones from 239 fresh stool samples from healthy people from different regions and different ages.
After expanding the culture, more than 10,000 pure clones were identified.
Cultivate isolates
.
Through the analysis of the intestinal metagenomics of healthy people, it was found that 85 new species in the strain library appeared in more than 90% of the intestines of healthy people, covering 79% of the known common genera and 75% of the common species in the human intestines
Compared with the largest human intestinal genome database (UHGG), hGMB contributes 24 "dark species" that have not been detected in intestinal culture-free omics research but are ubiquitous
The author stated that, given that the construction of the intestinal microbial strain resource bank is the basis for the development and utilization of intestinal microbes, it is a vital link in understanding the host-microbial interaction mechanism, and the construction of the Chinese intestinal microbial resource bank has long-term strategic significance.
Last year, the team also published the largest model animal mouse gut microbial resource bank (mGMB) so far, which contains 126 microorganisms and their genomes, of which 77 microorganisms are new species successfully isolated and cultured for the first time, making cultivable small The resources of mouse gut microbial strains increased from 48 genera to 110 genera, from 76 to 180 species, and in this process, a set of simplest standardized procedures for anaerobic microorganism isolation, cultivation and species identification description were formed
