According to the Philippine Business Mirror on October 11, the Philippine Department of Agriculture announced a suggested retail price of 170 pesos
per kilogram of red onions in Metro Manila.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Panganiban said that when setting the recommended retail price, the Ministry of Agriculture took into account the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the situation in Russia and Ukraine and the rise in fuel prices, resulting in high agricultural prices
.
According to the latest statistics from the Department of Agriculture, as of October 7, the average price of native red onions in the Metro Manila area was 200 pesos
per kilogram.
In September, the Philippine Department of Agriculture announced that the government was working to stabilize domestic production and had provided more than 100 million pesos in aid
to onion growers.
