Li Jiatang of the Chengdu Institute of Biological Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences collected a sample of the no.3 post-prism in Guzhang County, Hunan Province, based on mitochondrial DNA and morphological studies to find that the species is a new species of the post-prism genus (Opisthotropis G?nther, 1872) and named it the "Opisthtropis Zhaoermii", which is currently known only as a model. Zhao's post-prism is named after the famous Chinese amphibian reptileologist, academician Zhao Erzhao, in honor of its outstanding contribution to the study of amphibian reptiles in China and around the world, including the classification of the genus of the rear prism (the new species's sister species, the Peristhotropis Chenis Chenzhao, 1999, was first discovered and described by Academician Zhao.
