As a global natural disaster, low temperature and chilling damage will cause changes in plant cell structure and tissue, resulting in plant physiological and biochemical metabolism disorders, thereby inhibiting the normal growth and development of plants, causing leaf spots, severe flower drop and fruit drop, and in severe cases, causing plant wilting dea.

During the long-term evolution, plants have formed a complex signaling network to cope with low temperature stress, including the co-regulation of plant hormones, transcription factors, epigenetic modifications and other facto.

Recently, the research group of Professor Zhou Yanhong from Zhejiang University published a research paper titled "The miR164a-NAM3 module confers cold tolerance by inducing ethylene production in tomato" online in The Plant Journal , reporting that the miR164a-NAM3 module can induce the production of the plant hormone ethyle.

In this study , the SlNAM3 that was inhibited by Sl-miR164a/b-5p and significantly induced by low temperature was screened out through bioinformatics analysis and physiological analysis , and then a homozygous SlNAM3 gene editing mutant ( nam3 ) , SlNAM3 overexpressing plants ( OE- NAM3 ) and Sl-miR164a/b-5p silenced plants (STTM164a/b-5p.

The miR164a-NAM3 module enhances low temperature resistance in tomato by inducing ethylene synthesis

Further studies showed that Sl-miR164a/b-5p and SlNAM3 play negative and positive regulatory roles, respectively, in ethylene biosynthes.

Dong Yufei from the School of Agriculture and Biotechnology of Zhejiang University is the first author of the paper, and Professor Zhou Yanhong is the corresponding auth.
