The University of London studies durable, wear-resistant self-cleaning coatings

: The University of London research team has developed ultra-hydrophobic coatings , which can be applied to a variety of different surfaces, such as automotive surfaces and so on. The active ingredient in this
coating
is covered with titanium dioxide nanoparticles, allowing liquid water droplets to roll on the surface of the object and do not attach to the surface, as these droplets roll on the surface of the object, they can suck up dirt, viruses, bacteria or other non-liquid contaminants.
In order for the coating to stick to the surface, different types of adhesives were needed, and during their study, the researchers applied it to glass and metal surfaces using air brushes, syringes to paper, and cotton swab only to
paint
surfaces.
Durability is a weakness of many previously developed self-cleaning coatings, which are more wear-resistant and remain hydrophobic during long-term use, even when exposed to simulated real-world wear conditions, including sandpaper friction and knife scratches.
