Affected by the epidemic , the total export volume of pangasius from Vietnam in August and September 2021 is still sluggish.
Although export prices have increased, the supply bottleneck has narrowed and the supply of 800-1,000 grams is in short supply.
The industry expects that it may not be able to return to normal before the end of the year
    .

A source told UCN: “The export of pangasius plummeted in August and recovered to the level of 50,000 tons in September, but the export volume was still lower than that in July
    .
I don’t think the situation can be normalized before November or December.
The possibility is that the supply shortage will continue until 2022, which of course depends on the specific situation of the epidemic
    .
    "

During the most severe period of the epidemic in Vietnam, the market was quite sluggish, and farmers were forced to postpone harvesting fish, reduce feed, and maintain the ideal weight of finished fish
    .
Some time ago, the price of 800-1,000 grams of pangasius from the pond increased, mainly because the raw material fish processing plants of this specification gave priority to purchase
    .
Compared with the past few weeks, the current market sales have declined.
Considering the tight supply in the future, many processing plants choose to freeze pangasius
    .

At present, the seedling season in Vietnam has passed, and the slow growth of pangasius means that there will be a continued shortage of 800-1,000 grams in the next few months
    .

Le Thi Thuy Trang, Vietnam Sales Manager of Siam Canadian Group, told UCN: “Currently, ideal specifications are very scarce
    .
Due to the epidemic lockdown and transportation restrictions, farmers cannot collect fish and transport raw fish to the processing plant.
Can continue to be kept in the pond for feeding, and now many fish have exceeded the standard size
    .
    "

"We expect that the supply will be normalized in March next year.
The Spring Festival is on February 1.
It will take at least 4-5 months for small-sized pangasius to grow to the ideal size
    .
Taking into account the tight supply, we expect it to grow from now to next year.
In the second quarter, prices will remain high
    .
    " Trang said
    .

The first source added that pangasius is mainly farmed in Tianjiang and Can Tho areas.
Although the production capacity of processing plants has declined, the terminal price has not increased significantly.
It only rose slightly in July, and now it has begun to fall again, mainly due to the procurement market (especially The Chinese market) is facing many difficulties, and the authorities must find ways to avoid any risk of the spread of the new crown virus through frozen seafood
