A Study by the University of Michigan found that an essential oil in cinnamon attacks fat cells and can therefore be used to treat obesity, according to US media.
study shows that cinnamon aldehyde promotes metabolic health by stimulating fat cells to consume energy, a process known as heat production, USA Today reported on November 25. "Cinnamon has been part of our diet for thousands of years, and people usually love it," said Jun Wu of the University of Michigan's Institute of Life Sciences. So if it can also help fight obesity, it may provide a metabolic health boost that makes it easier for patients to stick to it. The
the study was inspired by studies of cinnamon aldehyde in laboratory mice, which showed that cinnamon aldehyde could prevent obesity. The new study, published in the current issue of the journal Metabolism, tests whether similar effects can occur in humans.
reported that the researchers extracted fat cells from volunteers and treated them with cinnamon aldehyde, and found that the "expression" of genes and enzymes that promote metabolism increased, as well as an increase in proteins that contribute to heat production. Wu Jun suggests that cinnamon aldehyde can be used to activate the role of heat to fight obesity. But before is not in favor of cinnamon as a weight-loss treatment, and more research is needed to discover the benefits and side effects of cinnamon aldehyde.
